After defeating Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls 49-7, the Knights became the only programs to win four straight state titles, along with Bellevue (3A) and Lacrosse-Washtucna (1B).

Regarding the WIAA 1A football state title, Royal High School creates history in the sports world by being the first school to accomplish a four-peat, an accomplishment previously held by Bellevue (3A) and Lacrosse-Washtucna (1B). The Knights’ supremacy was demonstrated in a decisive 49-7 triumph over Nine Mile Falls’ Lakeside.

In this alternate backdrop, the outcome remained unchanged for Royal High School football during the WIAA championship showdown. Junior sensation Lance Allred emerged as a solo force, orchestrating a display of prowess that encompassed 351 yards of total offense, six touchdowns, and a defensive masterpiece of two interceptions. The top-seeded Knights left no room for doubt as they dismantled the second-seeded Lakeside.

The numerical symmetry of the victory places the Knights alongside the exclusive company of Bellevue (2001-04; 2008-11 in 3A) and Lacrosse-Washtucna (2002-05) in the hallowed grounds of Washington state history, marking a rare achievement of clinching four consecutive WIAA titles. Royal High School’s triumph also marked its twelfth state championship overall.

The inaugural drive witnessed Allred punctuating the defending champions’ intent with a 12-yard touchdown gallop, establishing an early 7-0 lead. In a recurring motif, Allred secured another 3-yard scoring plunge midway through the second quarter.

The pivotal juncture materialized in the waning moments of the first half, with Allred’s 33-yard scoring escapade amplifying Royal’s lead to an imposing 21-0, leaving only 1:44 on the clock. Swiftly, Allred showcased his defensive prowess by intercepting Lakeside’s quarterback, Calvin Mikkelsen, one of three interceptions for the Knights on that decisive day.

In a rapid succession of plays, Allred seamlessly connected with Caden Allred for a 31-yard touchdown along the left sideline. The Knights further fortified their lead to a commanding 28-0, leaving a mere 54 seconds on the halftime countdown.

Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls attempted to break Royal’s defensive resilience, with Mikkelsen engineering a 5-yard scoring play to Hiro Patterson at the 3:12 mark of the third quarter. This marked the conclusion of Royal’s 2023 state-playoff shutout streak, spanning an impressive 177 minutes across three-plus games.
