Amit Ravindernath Sharma is co-writer and director of the 2024 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film Maidaan (transl. Field), which is produced by Zee Studios, Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Boney Kapoor. In the film, Ajay Devgn portrays Syed Abdul Rahim, an innovative football coach in India from 1952 to 1962.
On April 10, 2024, the film’s previews were revealed. On April 11, 2024, which was Eid, the movie was theatrically distributed globally. Although the movie was well-received, it was a box office disaster, earning ₹68 crore globally.

Story
The Indian national football team was severely beaten by Yugoslavia 10-1 in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. The All India Football Federation’s members hold coach Syed Abdul Rahim accountable for the team’s poor play. Rahim asks for permission to assemble a new squad consisting of players. The federation’s members, particularly Subhankar, are hesitant, but Rahim is supported by President Anjan, who gives him permission. After that, Rahim looks for players throughout India and puts together a new squad that includes, among others, Tulsidas Balaram from Secunderabad, Peter Thangaraj from Hyderabad, P. K. Banerjee from Kolkata, and Chuni Goswami from Calcutta.
Rahim is the target of resentment from Roy Choudhary, a powerful journalist from Calcutta since Rahim assembled a squad with very few Calcutta-born players.
In Melbourne, Australia in 1956, the Indian team got ready for competition. Neville D’Souza is disrespected by an Australian squad member and forced to tie his shoes. The Indian team defeats the Australian squad 7-1 after Neville scores a hat-trick. The Australian team is shocked. In the end, the Indian team finishes the Olympics in fourth place. Subhankar and Roy Choudhary intend to depose Rahim from the federation and install Subhankar as president in the meantime.
The Indian team competed against France, regarded as the greatest team in the world, at the 1960 Summer Olympics. The Indian team is unable to advance as the match ends in a 1-1 stalemate. Rahim is fired by the federation as the Indian team’s coach due to poor performance.
