Plot Synopsis

12-year-old Bea moves into her grandmother Margaret's New York apartment as her father undergoes heart surgery. Initially dismissive of her dad's playful nature, she encounters a mysterious creature while out shopping. Following it, she meets Cal and discovers a hidden world of imaginary friends (IFs) needing new children. Despite initial reluctance, Bea decides to help.

Cal takes Bea to Memory Lane Retirement Home for IFs under a swing at Coney Island, where Lewis, an elderly teddy bear, inspires her to redesign the facility. Attempting to connect an IF with a hospitalized boy, Benjamin, proves challenging until Bea realizes IFs might need to reunite with their original friends.

Through conversations with her grandmother, Bea recognizes Blossom, Margaret's childhood IF, and tests her theory by sparking memories through dancing.
